Mark Webb
Dear Friend,
In early July, several individuals associated with the Greene County criminal justice system contacted me concerning running for the office of Greene County Sheriff. After much deliberation and family conversations, I have decided to continue my lifelong commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Greene County – and run for sheriff.
I have spent the last 27 years protecting and serving the citizens of Springfield as a member of the Springfield Police Department. My education, along with the following assignments, and these many years of service qualify me for the office of Sheriff:
As a Corporal, I worked undercover as a narcotics investigator combating the local drug problem, especially methamphetamines.
As a Sergeant, I supervised a unit known as “Safe Streets Task Force” that provided aggressive and proactive police presence directed at the criminal population of Springfield.
While working in Crime Analysis, I was responsible for obtaining, analyzing, and implementing information concerning crime trends and patterns in Springfield.
As Lieutenant, I served as Community Services Commander. This position was responsible for Community Oriented Policing, a program based on the philosophy of establishing or re-establishing trust bonds between the community and the Springfield Police Department. This entailed working with neighborhood groups and committees.
I am excited about the possibility of serving the people of this great community – and of bringing change to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. One of my first changes, if elected, would be to re-evaluate the current “catch and release” program, which places the safety and security of Greene County citizens at risk. Implementing new policies and procedures is necessary and action is required to protect our citizens.
